Here was a great day! After another seafood dinner, we took a drive and Bill mentioned to head down to Hug Point. We pulled into the parking area and walked toward the beach. I could not believe how in a trip of awesome coastline and great beaches Hug Point stands above them all. The solid granite rocks from the mountainside hug the almost empty beach. Here large rocks lay in the sand giving an other worldly feel to walking on the beach as you navigate around them to walk. The tide was low so there was not much surf coming up the sand. The Northern end of the beach is a myriad of mountains of granite with caves cut into its interior providing places of shelter and exploration. We walk along this beach toward the Northern most rocks that had a cut pathway of stone that we climbed up and walked out on. The water reached the pathway leaving it wet so we could not sit on the outwardly rocks.
We decided to walk back and Bill showed me where his parents house stood majestically on top of the bluff overlooking this beauty. Bill stopped to look up at the granite rocks leading up to the house he built and designed. It was in that moment, I could see in his face a man reliving an entire lifetime of emotions. His dad sitting in his reading chair, his mom telling him to come down and walk on the beach, a young man with a lifetime ahead of him with his young bride, his beautiful daughters growing up here making sand castles, chasing seagulls, the sadness of his father's passing and a man who could feel his own mortality. Here in his vulnerable face, standing tall and silent like the granite rocks before him stood someone special. It was said of Caesar when he died that thunder stuck, the clouds opened up, and the Gods proclaimed--Here walked a Man. This is how I saw Bill in that moment. I gently put my hand on his shoulder and softly said, beautiful memories. He looked at me and said, "You bet" and we walked on....
