Magnificent Day!

What can I say, how can I put into words the kind of day a person has few times in their lives. The natural beauty of the coast, the engineering marvel of roads that switchback, cutback, make hair pin turns up the mountainside, drop offs that go straight down sheer cliffs, glimpses of the coast high above as you attempt to keep your eye on the road and a view of the beauty that surrounds you. Bill enjoyed pointing out the various styles of architecture used for coastal homes. The drive alternating between being magnificent and exhausting.

We could have taken 101 the interstate and arrived at our destination a few hours earlier and a lot more rested. But, I waited a lifetime to take this drive and what is the rush. So we were beat, tired, running on fumes at the end but we did it its best road. No compromise in either of us. A few times I asked Bill do you want me to take the shorter, quicker route, he gave me an emphatic NO! Case closed, we take the road less traveled...

Miles took hours. Round and round we went, sometimes no faster that 15 miles an hour. We passed towns that ranged in population from 90 to 350 inhabitants. Towns so small that if you blinked you would be passed them. On and on we drove stopping at points to enjoy the view of the coast. Once when we saw a group of surfers trying to catch some waves. Another time, just for the sheer untouched beauty of the coast.

Halfway through we stopped for gas and I needed a 20 oz coffee to keep going. It wasn't easy as I waited for the coffee to kick in. I did get a surprise at the gas station when AMEX denied my transaction. The problem was that I had no cell phone connection and could not reach them by phone. Good thing I had another credit card and cash as well. We were fine. I was more concerned with the coffee doing its job than AMEX.

Coffee worked! We are on the move again. We take Ca 1 until it ends and drops us back on 101. However, now we are moving into the forest of redwoods. I notice a sigh that says Chandler Drive-Thru Tree. Bill and I look at each other and say let's go...

To be continued...........

Finally, I get a pose out of him

Watching the surfers (those small black figures in water with wetsuits on)
