I am cruising away. Now I will try to give you an idea of the driving speed limits and roads. You go from switchback roads at 15 MPH to coming into a stretch where it is 65 MPH, then drops to 55 MPH, until you hit the beginnings of the town where it can go back down quickly to 25-30 MPH. The thing about driving these small wonderful costal towns is that you constantly are adjusting your speed.
I am going along when I see flashing lights behind me. You know that feeling you get thinking, " I hope its not for me" but rest assure it was for me. I pull over and the officer comes over to the car and says "You know you were going 77MPH in a 55." what could I say but that I did not realize I was going that fast. The truth is I did not, and neither did Bill. The officer asked if I would like to see the radar gun showing my speed. I politely declined and said no. I wanted to say, you think I trust you guys. I have to admit this officer was the most polite cop I ever met. He chatted us up to where we were going and even said, you know you don't need to answer that if you don't want. So we told him we were on a coastal road trip from San Francisco to Portland. He said "that is a great trip and you will see more of it if you slow down." he reduced the speed fine to 65. So I got a ticket and a lecture. Due to his polite style and the fact that I do not have car insurance any longer allow me to continue and not ruin my lovely day.
So onward we went and began looking for a place for the night. We tried the town of Bookings but since it was Saturday night everything was sold out. We drove further into Gold Beach and again we got skunked. It seemed that three places the person in front of us got the room ahead of us. Now it was starting to get dark. I no longer like driving at night. We hit a few more places and again to no avail. Finally, with it just turning dark we cross a bridge and I see this motel on my left. I pull in hoping that had a room for us. The place was called Jot's Resort and it was right on the river. The woman behind the counter said Yes, I have rooms with two beds. We took the room for the night found out where to eat and dropped our stuff in the room. In the room, I said to Bill, I am tired, since it is the weekend let us stay here for two nights. Bill agreed and we went off to eat a really nice meal of fish and chips. So fresh it felt like it was just caught.
